When it comes to shopping, my life is a constant fight between me wanting to have all those pretty things and me knowing that I have neither enough money nor space to fit in all of my hypothetical goods (but to be honest, I think that’s most of us, really). As consequence, I usually end up with loads of more or less useful stuff. Some of them I will regret, some will be given to someone else, and some I will keep and like. And some of this stuff I am going to love instantly and keep using over and over again. So, without further ado, those are some of the “more useful” products that I bought this year and particularly liked.
Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator
At the beginning of the year, my skin has started to act funny. It never was perfect, but usually, I didn’t have too many troubles with it, and I could go out without even putting on a foundation or concealer and I still looked all right. But this year it was just like an explosion of imperfections and spots all around my neck and jawline and even on my cheeks (I’ve never had that many blackheads on my cheeks!), and I didn’t know what to do. It looked worse and worse every day. But still, I had to moisturize. Then my friend recommended this product to me and well, it was love from the first use. First of all, its gel-cream formula is perfect for all types of skin, especially mixed and oily, as it doesn’t block pores (I didn’t need any more of those!). Secondly, it hydrates and nourishes the skin so well, the difference is visible. It has a light texture and absorbs very quickly. I usually use it at night, but it can be applied even under makeup. The moisturizing effect lasts long and the skin is smooth and soft to touch (even though apparently it’s not good to touch your face too often, but it’s just so nice!). It definitely helped me to manage my skin problems, so I think it’s worth every penny. I’ve recently purchased the fourth jar of this goodie, and I don’t think I will stop using it any time soon.
Johnson’s Baby Soothing Naturals Intense Moisture Cream
This one, I got it from the clearance section when I thought that I can use it as a body lotion. But then I run out of face cream, and I decided to give it a shot. I figured it can’t be too bad if it’s suitable for babies and it has the word “naturals” written on the top. And it turned out to be AMAZING. I’m not even joking, I think it’s one of the best moisturizers I’ve ever had. At first, I was a little scared of how is it going to react to my recently problematic face. It seemed to had a rather rich texture, but it sinks in quite quickly (still, it’d be better as a night cream). Enriched with vitamin E and olive leaf extract, it’s great for dry and tired skin. I think it completely transformed my skin and, I dare to say, helped to clear it. I don’t know how did it happen, but since I’m using it my face came back to its normal state, without any excessive breakouts and blackheads (or whiteheads). Now, I know that every skin is different, and it may not have such a spectacular effect on everyone, but it’s a very decent moisturizer that feeds, smooths, and hydrates the skin, smells amazing and is quite affordable. I love it.
St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub
I’ve heard so many opinions about this being the best scrub brand that I decided to give it a go. And it also became my favorite brand when it comes to exfoliators. This one, made with 100% natural exfoliants (walnut shell powder, to be precise), cleanses the skin deeply without irritating it. It’s pleasant to use, easy to rinse, and it smells lovely. I use it once or twice a week and it results in clear, fresh, and smooth skin, and as it contains salicylic acid, it helps to prevent new breakouts. I like this product, and I’d recommend it to everyone.
Basically everything made by Soap & Glory
No jokes here. I haven’t met an S&G product I didn’t like. From packages and names to scents to results, Soap & Glory has it all. It definitely is one of my favorite brands of all time. This year I particularly enjoyed the Sugar Crush line. Somehow it never was my favorite scent until this summer, when I started to use the body wash…and then body butter…and the fragrance mist… And suddenly, it was all sweet lime and vanilla musk! The body wash is just so creamy and refreshing, and the body buttercream that you can see in the picture is one of the products that I’m happy I discovered. The trick is to apply it on the slightly damp skin and let it work its miracles. Packed with nourishing ingredients such as shea butter and almond oil, leaves the skin soft and moisturized. It feels, looks, and smells amazing. It also absorbs super quickly (which is extremely important for me being an extra lazy person). I use it constantly. I love the results and the fact that for me, it smells like summer.
Talking about S&G, I can’t forget about Soap And Glory Hand Food Hand Cream. There’s one thing you have to know about me: no matter how hard I try, my hands usually look rather miserable. It’s mostly due to the lack of consequence and the constant use of antibacterial soap that I apply at work. Looking for something that would help my poor, chapped hands, I keep coming back to this hand cream. Right now, I have a big tube next to my bed and a mini version of this product in each of my handbags, just in case. It works instantly, doesn’t feel greasy at all, and smells nice.
Clinique High Impact Mascara
The funny thing about me and make up is that somehow I didn’t use that much make up this year. I don’t know why (hint: I’m just a lazy person), but one day I decided to go bare-faced, and the next thing I know that was how I looked for 80% of 2017. But still, if I had to pick one make up product I couldn’t live without, that’d definitely be mascara. I wrote more about this particular one here and what can I add, few months later I still think it’s absolutely amazing.
Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara
Really nice product for a relatively good price. Lengthens and separates the lashes without clumping or smudging. Adds volume and lasts for a long time (still, I’d rather use it as everyday mascara rather than the one for a big night out). I think it has a deeper shade than the Clinique one, so it defines lashes a bit better. But I use those two alternately, and I love both.
Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette
Now the thing is, I know it won’t be my favorite palette of all times (to be honest, I’m still looking for that perfect one). But I’ve decided to mention it here because I absolutely love the colors. Also, with this palette, I created the best makeup look of the year (in case you’re wondering, that was one day when I went on holidays in Italy and well, I wish I’d taken more pictures). The shades are beautiful and easy to apply and blend. Usually, I don’t use applicators provided in palettes as I prefer to use proper brushes, but a couple of times I had to use the one that comes with this palette, and surprisingly, the result was quite pretty, which is also a pro. Plus, it is just so cute! So I definitely like it, but I’m still looking for an eyeshadow palette that will steal my heart. Next year, maybe?
Obviously, there are many more products that I liked and definitely will continue to use (like my absolutely favorite Garnier tissue masks), but I tried to keep it short. I hope you liked it! 🙂 Happy New Year, and I hope 2018 will bring only good things (and more amazing beauty products to discover)! Thank you for reading ❤
